Foreword
Have you ever watched the 1997 science fiction movie, ‘Event Horizon’?
You’re already probably thinking what on earth the above statement remotely has to do with anything.
Then bear with me.
To summarise, the film was about a spacecraft and its crew which were running trials upon a new propulsion system, allowing instantaneous travel from point A to point B.
It all went hideously wrong.
The craft and its crew were inadvertently propelled to Hell itself – where the ship and what remained of its crew languished for seven years before suddenly and unexpectedly reappearing in deep space. Some survivors had returned but were severely changed by the horrific experience.
And this is where the analogy ends and the true story begins; for the reason that I consider it metaphorical of a series of events which occurred in my life and the lives of two of my former work colleagues.
We’ve been through Hell - and returned.
The only difference being that we have collectively spent in total over ten years in our enforced torment. Just like the movie, we have also unexpectedly reappeared; but we are to some extent all permanently changed individuals for the experiences we endured at the hands of cretins and liars.
A chain of unbelievable and unforeseeable events began for the first of us in 1997 – with a kangaroo court investigation in the workplace held by unthinking, uncaring and unrelenting management. It ended in dismissal from the job.
It did not end at that.
As if job loss, loss of career, spiralling debt, mortgage worries, financial difficulties – and to top it all, the onset of mental health problems (originated through stress and depression caused as a result of the investigations); the former employer, South Tyneside Council decided that not enough personal suffering had been endured – so they embarked upon a warpath of strings of false allegations, accusations and only 18 months later, the complete destruction of my new job with a new employer. I have never been able to work since.
Stress and depression became long-term Clinical Depression which required medication – in other words, I had suffered a mental breakdown.
So I've seen Hell at first-hand, but lived to tell the tale.
In May 1999 at my former workplace in South Shields, five of my former work colleagues – some of them close friends – became suspects of serious criminal activity by police who had been involved in what can only be described as a fiasco. Without a shred of evidence, the same management team made them official suspects and my colleagues were arrested and suspended from duty. I was further embroiled in this investigation too, due to – alarmingly – the actions of a representative from my own union, UNISON. Staggeringly, they have harboured and protected that person’s identity for over 9 years.
Two of my friends and colleagues – their innocence later proven, yet their health and livelihoods destroyed, again through stress and depression, never returned to their jobs. They too suffered financial hardship and all the stresses, uncertainty and worries that supplement such traumatic events. Again, through the actions of the same union representative and her sidekick, they lost their compensation battle against their former employer due to a ‘conflict of interest’ – thanks to the actions of the representative and her minion, which prevented essential case information from being revealed in court.
We collectively fought our former employer, which resulted in a decade-long though peaceful protest of correspondence and requests for investigations into the matters raised. Our peaceful pleas were continuously thrown back in our faces and requirements for personal dialogue were repeatedly denied.
We had placed our beliefs in the Justice system, negotiation and dialogue.
We were to be woefully mistaken. There is no Justice.
So led to the creation of this website – 10 years after it all began and almost 10 years after we were first presumed to have ‘disappeared’.
But in April 2008 we returned. We have reappeared.
For those individuals who were complicit in sending us to our previous destination, we have retrieved for you what we ourselves have endured – Hell on Earth. It’s your turn now. Welcome.
To all the visitors and readers also out here in space – cyberspace that is - enjoy reading the website and I hope you are shocked by its contents.
Unlike the opening sci-fi analogy in this foreword; ‘This is not a work of fiction – this is a True Story’.
